 Rochester Hills, Mich. ― Energy Conversion Devices (ECD), a Rochester Hills-based maker of thin-film flexible solar power products, announced on Wednesday that it is moving some of its final assembly operations from Michigan to Tijuana, Mexico.

    As a result of the move, the company is cutting about 140 jobs in the U.S.

   “We are aggressively reducing our cost structure to operate more effectively in the highly-competitive, global solar market, and, through these actions, we will better utilize our existing capacity in Tijuana, without any additional capital costs,” said Mark Morelli, ECD’s president and CEO.
 
    ECD (Nasdaq: ENER) was founded in 1960 and currently operates in the U.S., Mexico, Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and China.

    Shares in the company were down $0.42 at $4.79 as of mid-morning on Wednesday following the announcement, a loss of about 8%
